Getting through these last six weeks of Winter

on Wednesday, 04 February 2015.

Yes, six more weeks of winter!

This past Monday, February 2 was Groundhog Day. Our furry little friend saw his shadow and predicted six more weeks of winter for us. Now as we all know living in East Tennessee our weather changes almost every minute. Sunshine to snow/rain and back to sunshine; East Tennesee weather can be very unpredictable. Well at iSS we thought we would take a moment to gather some great tips to get us all through these last six weeks of Winter. Our first tip(s) to get us through are some that we have discussed before, but are great reminders to any homeowner.

With tempatures changing, you never know when we could get a record low. It is as important as ever to prevent your home from frozen pipes. When water freezes in pipes, it expands causing the pipe to burst. Then you have a major situation on your hands as the water thaws and flows freely into your home. So we have come up with 5 quick tips to help prevent frozen pipes.

  1. Check where your pipes are. You want to make sure they are not exposed to cold air and if they are, they need to be insulated. Pipe sleeves provide much needed insulation for pipes in drafty areas.
  2. Leave a steady stream of water dripping in a kitchen or bathroom sink. It does not have to be a ton of water, but just enough to keep things moving. The cost of leaving a sink dripping is far less than the mess of a flooded house.
  3. Leave cabinet doors open to allow warm inside air to circulate around pipes. Keep garage doors closed to ensure pipes are not exposed to freezing temperatures.
  4. Do not drastically adjust your thermostat throughout the day and night. By maintaining a steady temperature, you reduce your chances of a frozen pipe.
  5. Know where your water cut off valves are located. If you do not have one inside your home, then make sure you know where the water main is outside. If you have a leak, your No. 1 priority is shutting off the water.

Check back in for the next tips that will get us through these last weeks of Winter!

Knoxville Digital Signage

on Thursday, 29 May 2014. Posted in Knoxville Digital Signage

Have you been to the mall lately and noticed the directory has been replaced by a new interactive digital display or gone in your kids school to find reminders scrolling by on digital signs in common areas? Digital signage is becoming not only popular, but the new standard in the industry. In fact, they are becoming so common that it's almost odd when businesses still use basic posters or signs. The types of businesses that can benefit from this technology are endless and the time digital signage can save employees and management is worth its weight in gold. They truly are the quickest way to display information and in today's fast paced society, every second counts. They can be used in many different locations, but here are just a few:

  • Restaurants
  • Schools & College
    Campuses
  • Hotels
  • Public Transportation Terminals
  • Malls
  • Gyms
  • Medical Offices
  • Spas
  • Event Venues
  • Sports Stadiums
  • Bars & Nightclubs.

Digital Signage can be changed in a flash so you'll always be able to bring announcements to your audience ASAP. Before digital signage, you would have to design poster displays, have them made, spend a decent amount of money, and have it displayed in enough time that it's still relevant. So say you own a small boutique and you want to get rid of some extra inventory by having a big spring sale, but you really wanted to do it this weekend. Unfortunately you get a call Wednesday and there's a delay with your signs and they won't be done until the following Monday. Digital signage allows you to change your message instantly so you can pass along news, events or sales at a moments notice.

Digital signage is especially a must in schools or college campuses these days. They are perfect for keeping students in the know about deadlines or events and can be lifesaving in case of an emergency like dangerous weather conditions. They are also great for those students that always seem to forget tuition deadlines!

Don't get left in the Dark Ages, let us show you how digital signage can work for your business.

How WE beat any 'Top Security Company'

on Friday, 16 May 2014. Posted in Knoxville Home Security

Mass marketing security only provides the homeowner with a very basic and ineffective alarm system. Security companies like ADT will provide you with “peace of mind” but never security.

For example, ADT will install an alarm panel and a front and a back door motion sensor. What about the side door and all the windows? Unfortunately, ADT’s basic package is only a panel and a couple motion sensors, a simple design to allow you to enter a pin number when you leave and when you come home. If you are asking above what their basic package is you will pay a lot more than what you expected.

Another thing to think about is when they come to sell you one of their security packages; you are leasing their equipment not purchasing it. The service they try to provide you is very little and their technicians are only there to install a system and be in and out of your home within just a few hours. Also, if you ever have any trouble with the system, it will sometimes take a technician anywhere from a week to a few weeks to come to your home and fix any problems you may have.

Mass marketing security is only good at one thing….. MARKETING! If they truly cared about you and your home would they not do a better job in providing you with exceptional service? They would make sure you had peace of mind AND security. Not one or the other.

Our philosophy is to have the knowledge and  experience to provide our clients with better life  solutions. From start to finish of an installation and  beyond we know exactly what we did for you.  Attention to detail and compassion shows within our work and we will never treat you like a sale. You are always a client, but more importantly a close friend.

At iSS, we take pride in providing our clients with  peace of mind, security, and amazing customer  service. As a home owner you will never have to  worry about a thing. We are with you every step of  the way to make sure you have solutions that work. If you ever have a problem or just need to ask a  question we are always here to take your calls.

Awesome Outdoor Technology

on Wednesday, 02 April 2014. Posted in Knoxville Outdoor Technology

It’s finally warming up and if you’re anything like me you are beyond ready. After being stuck inside the last several months, I can’t wait to spend some time outdoors with friends and family. If you’re also anything like me, you probably have a little work to do before you’re ready to host that first BBQ of the year. Aside from the usual post-hibernation yard duties, I’ll bet your outdoor living space could use some other upgrades. If you like to stay up-to-date with new technology, then you’ve probably noticed there are tons of great products for outdoor living. From landscape speakers to projection screens, there are plenty of options to create an outdoor space that will give your indoor living area a run for its money. Even if you just want a new portable music streaming device to put out on the deck, the options are truly endless.

If you love music, then why not bring high quality audio outdoors? There are several products on the market that will blow you away. If you want to go all out and install a year-round option, I would go for the Sonance Landscape Series speakers and subs. We’ve installed several of these systems and as far as sound goes, you really can’t get much better. Plus, they tie in beautifully to your already existing outdoor areas. Sonance lives by the mantra that speakers should be heard not seen. You can bet your bottom dollar that you’ll be able to hear these. Several different subwoofer options can be buried into the ground and the above-ground canopy can be easily camouflaged with plants or scrubs. Another great feature about this system is their ability to contain sound with directional speakers. This reduces sound spill and annoyed neighbors!

If you want a more versatile portable option, Sonos has a variety of wireless speakers that can go anywhere you do. For the biggest sound, try the Play:5 or Play:3. For a more compact option try the Play:1 or mix and match any of the three together for optimal performance. Not only do these wireless speakers pack a punch, they are also super versatile. When you’re ready to head inside for the night, these speakers can come on in with you.

Outdoor audio can transform your backyard into a musical oasis. Who wouldn’t want to kick back on the weekend and listen to their favorite albums in the comfort of the great outdoors? Plus, with Mother’s Day and Father’s Day on the horizon, a new outdoor audio system would be an amazing gift for the music lover in your family.

If you really want to jazz up your space, why not add a television under a covered patio or a projection screen by the pool? We've done several projects with outdoor TVs or projection screens and our clients couldn't be happier. It's like having a drive-in theater in your own backyard! The only problem is you may have a hard time getting your guests to ever leave.

If you're looking for an outdoor flat screen, a SunBrite or a Seura Storm TV will deliver high-quality picture and can survive the most undersirable weather conditions. Because the technology is still newer, the price tag can be steep, but their solid engineering will guarantee you'll be able to enjoy your outdoor TV for many years to come. If you don't want to splurge on a weatherproof TV, some covered patios will allow for a basic flat screen, but you're not guaranteed a lasting relationship with that option. Warm spring weather can also bring some nasty storms so install regular flat screen TVs at your own risk! If an outdoor TV sounds good, but you cant find one big enough for your space then there are tons of outdoor projection screen options as well. The great thing about projection screens is the ability to make them disappear when they aren't in use. When they are being used, I can promise you'll love it. How cool would it be to watch a new movie while you're floating under the stars in a pool. In fact, I think every pool needs a projection screen...

If you're been dreaming of an upgrade in your outdoor space since the deep freeze has finally begun to thaw, then let us come out and give you a free estimate. We love doing outdoor spaces and hope that we can give you the backyard you've always dreamed of.
